on the edge

A long term project with an amazing design and construction team and creative clients with a vision, has gradually unfolded into a series of courtyards and exterior rooms nestled into a well integrated piece of architecture, subtly rising from the rugged topography.  Special consideration was given to sun angles, views, wind and future development on neighboring properties, in the early schematic stages to help site the house and designate uses for outdoor rooms.  Steel, concrete, granite, fire and water yield an edgy but natural landscape.  A black granite infinity edge reflection pool surrounding a thin slice of flames, marks the entry.  In the interior courtyard a custom cantilevered concrete bench floats above one of the only sod areas, where a linear steel water runnel emphasizes the design parti while echoing the soothing sounds of castle creek below.  The indoor lap pool room walls open, directly connecting the outdoor pool terrace where a round stainless steel spa is recessed into the blue-stone paving.  Custom mahogany and stainless steel furniture were installed for outdoor dining and entertaining.  A custom built-in mahogany bench and fire-pit create an intimate master terrace for lounging in the hot-tub or watching the sun set by the fire.  A shade element and custom rolling sun-bed/hot-tub cover are currently in the works for this area.  Entry gates and a paved approach will complete the final phases of this design.
